Remember to bring your art supplies to each class. I have specified certain colors for certain classes to make sure you have these for class. For the Journal class and Introduction to Gouache class, there is no need to bring supplies. Please send in your registration form with deposit of 1/2 cost of class. Monday, July 28, 2008 Learning and Applying Journal Techniques In this one-day class learn how to create different types of journals. From field journal to travel journal, you will learn how to create painted pages, collage pages, and textured painted paper. Learn how to use journal items such as different types of envelopes, connector, ribbons and string, sealing wax, papers, inks, paint, and pens. I will show you how I created the journals from my recent trip to Italy. Spend an enjoyable day of inspiration. Class includes a small notebook journal to practice in, special journal items, use of brushes and paint, papers, ribbons, etc. Workshop 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Lunch 1:00 - 2:00pm Tuesday, July 29, 2008 Learning Painting Techniques for Journals For this class we will learn different painting techniques in watercolor pencil and pen. Learn how to create images quickly and to fast sketch. We will be painting on the grounds at Gardiner's. Bring a watercolor journal, watercolors and brushes, pencils and a micron 005 black pen. | August 1st & 2nd Painting Small Bird Nests with Eggs in Watercolor & Gouache on Tinted Board |
| Learn how to paint a small nest from my collection. This class starts on a Friday-Sat. instead of the usual Sat. and Sun. This is an excellent class to learn textures because we work with rootlets, grasses, bark , twigs, leaves, etc. We learn how to create the illusion of depth and how to paint bird eggs nestled in the nest. Our nests are small so we will have enough time to complete them. For those who have taken this class before, you can work on larger nests. I’ll provide the tinted board. Bring your art supplies and gouache, especially your permanent white gouache. Includes a summer lunch. $150 |
| August 2,3Creating a Small Nature Journal from My Bonny Doon Studio |
| This will be a very fun creative weekend. Learn the art of fast sketching and painting. We’ll start with a very small 3 ½ x 5 ½ journal. Then using objects from my studio collection or from my surrounding studio grounds, we will create a nature journal using a micron pen, a Derwent wash sketching pencil and watercolors. We can add our own thoughts or nature quotes. We can use some collage, rubber stamping, and transferring. Bring your art supplies and watercolors. I’ll provide the small hard-bound cover journal, micron pen, Derwent sketching pencil, transfer supplies, glue stick, small glassine envelopes, etc. Luncheon included. $165. |
| August 9Painting an Illuminated "B" with a Bird from an Engraving |
| For this class we create an illustration of an illuminated letter "B" along with a bird using engravings, transferring the images onto tinted board. Then we'll paint gouache. Bring your art supplies. I will provide the tinted board. Luncheon included. $75. |
| August 16Painting and Illuminating the Letter "D" with a Dragonfly in Gouache |
| For this one day class, we will paint the letter ‘D’ from an engraving that has been transferred onto a tinted board. We will then use images from old engravings of dragonflies to be transferred, and then painted using iridescent colors. We’ll create a beautiful illumination. Bring your art supplies. I’ll provide tinted boards and iridescent paint. Luncheon included. $75. |
| August 17Creating Little Collage Matchboxes as seen in "Vintage Collage-Works" Book |
| We’ll have fun collaging and painting on little matchboxes to create a very unique gift. I’ll guide you through the steps as you create with scrap art, postage stamps, marbled paper, rubber stamps, and ephemera. Inside the boxes we will add little miniature notes along with natural objects such as, feathers, shells, stones, dried rose buds, etc. I’ll provide all supplies. Luncheon included. $85. |

| Would you like to spend a day exploring and experimenting with color mixes? We’ll learn about primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. The purpose of this class is to encourage you to get to know colors well, and to be motivated to explore and experiment with color. Bring your brushes, and I’ll provide the paint and paper. | Learn how to paint waves, swells, sea foam, and light on ocean water. We paint on our watercolor hot press blocks. Bring your art supplies. Luncheon included. $75. |

| Learn how to paint a sandy beach with stones, bird tracks, beach glass, and a foamy wave. Paint black sand from Hawaii to white sand speckled with pink coral from the Yucatan Coast. Paint from my collection of sand samples from around the world. Bring your small hot press Arche watercolor block and art supplies. Luncheon included. $75 |

| One of my favorite projects for "Collage Works" was to create the collaged rock paperweight. I used all my favorite scraps of letters and stamps etc. It was so much fun that I want to share the experience with you. You can create a paperweight using all stamps, all wallpaper or all letters as I did. It looks easy..but it takes a little expertise such as color coordinating, balancing your Design of the paperweight, etc. I’ll provide all that you need for this project. You most likely will be able to work on several at the same time. Makes a great gift, but you probably will like it so much, you’ll want to keep it. Lunch included plus all supplies. $85. |
